FOSSIL HUNTING ANYONE?

Charleston Scuba also offers river diving excursions for those of you who wish to take home some of our history with you.  The South Carolina Lowcountry rivers have some of the richest marine fossil beds in the world.  This area is world-renowned for the enormous fossilized shark teeth found by divers, some of which are as large as your hand and date back  milions of years!!

Cooper River fossil hunting excursions for groups of 4-6 divers can be scheduled with our charter service.  We have over 30 years of experience on the river and we always take divers to the best sites.   Click here to view the Charters page. For charter reservations, please contact us at Charleston Scuba and we'll arrange the Trinity for a fossil hunting excursion -   (843) 763-3483.  We guarantee you'll find at least one fossil while you're here diving with us!

TOPSIDE ATTRACTIONS IN CHARLESTON:

While diving is our main draw, those who aren't diving can have fun too!

South Carolina has some of the best beaches in the south and these beautiful beaches surround the Charleston area and are just a short drive away.

Charleston is also one of the oldest cities in the United States and boasts a long list of historic places and buildings.  Charlestonians have preserved their homes so that we can offer lovely topside scenery, in addition to our exquisite underwater diving.

There's plenty to do: carriage tours, Revolutionary and Civil War forts, plantation tours, museum houses, antique stores and open air markets.

St. Michael's Cathedral

HISTORIC DOWNTOWN CHARLESTON

In this beautifully preserved city you can experience tours through historic landmarks, including 18th century homes and plantations, the Battery, museums, churches and the city market. Charleston boasts numerous art galleries that display the city’s impressive appreciation for the visual arts. Charleston maintains all the ingredients necessary for a great vacation

THE SOUTH CAROLINA AQUARIUM

100 Aquarium Wharf

Charleston, South Carolina 29413

(843) 720-1990

The theme of the South Carolina Aquarium is a journey from the mountains to the sea, across the varied landscape of the state.  South Carolina is small, just 300 miles across and 40th in size of all the states, yet it is in the top 10 or 15 states in terms of its biodiversity (the range of animals and plants that live there). This rich biodiversity is a reflection of the wide range of habitats found in the state, and the South Carolina Aquarium celebrates this biodiversity in its exhibits and programs.

The H.L. Hunley was a Confederate submersible that demonstrated the advantage and danger of undersea warfare.  Although not this nation's first submarine, Hunley was the first submarine to engage and sink a warship.  This historic vessel is on display to the general public right here in Charleston!
